Fee hike at UVCE red rag for students

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Student organisations have expressed outrage at a fee hike of about Rs 20,000 per year in the University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE).

The increase came on Engineer’s Day, which is Visvesvaraya’s birthday. All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) produced notifications from the college to prove their point.

The fee hike applies to BTech and BE in Architecture courses. Earlier, the fee had been Rs23,890 for the first year in the 2022-23 academic year but has increased to (a cumulative) Rs 45,000 for 2023-24.

“AIDSO Bangalore District committee strongly condemns the fee hike in UVCE government engineering college. Last year, the fee, which was Rs 23,000 , has now been hiked to 45,000. Students are shocked by this sudden hike,” an AIDSO statement said.

“AIDSO, along with students of UVCE has been opposing the government's move to make the college a self-financing institution. As proposed in the UVCE 2021 act, the fee has been hiked now.

“AIDSO calls this move anti-student and anti-poor and appeals to the state government to immediately withdraw the fee hike and take a pro student decision,” it added.
