BJP tie up: 6 Muslim leaders to quit JD(S)?
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: Several Muslim office bearers from the JD(S) have decided to quit the party in the wake of the alliance talks between the regional outfit and the BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Prime among them are former minister NM Nabi, JD(S) vice president Syed Shafiullah, who has already tendered his resignation, Mohid Altaf, youth wing president NM Noor and the party’s exminority wing chief Nasir Hussain Ustad.
They were joined by JD(S) candidate from Chickpet in May’s polls Imran Pasha, who went on record to say the leaders were “upset” but didn’t confirm he would quit.
The Muslim leaders believe that JD(S) as a “secular” party ought not to ally with the BJP which is seen as hostile to religious minorities.
They are said to have met at Kumar Krupa Guest House and taken a call to quit.
