Deer died of bacteria that infected intestines, heart, says BBP

Bengaluru: It was a bacterial infection that led to the death of as many as 14 deer at Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP), a BBP statement said on Monday.

The infection triggered diarrhoea and heart issues, the BBP said. The park had received 37 deer from St John’s Medical College and Hospital because they did not have enough space there.

The BBP veterinarians conducted tests of blood samples and reached the conclusion that the herbivores had been anaemic, meaning they had less than adequate red blood cell count, apart from suffering from liver malfunction.
