Bengaluru: The city police have clarified that there was no "forced religious conversion" angle in the recent case filed by a woman techie against her former live-in partner here.
Based on the complaint of a 37-year-old Bengalurubased woman, the police had arrested the accused Mozif Baig, 32, from Srinagar in Kashmir.
The complainant had alleged that she was in a live-in relationship with the accused before he started avoiding her and later went back to his native. In her complaint filed initially at Bellandur Police Station, the woman had alleged that her former partner had attempted to convert her religion with a promise of marriage.
The case was later transferred to Hebbagodi Police Station. A special team had arrested the accused from Kashmir and brought him to the city for an inquiry.
He was later booked under Indian Penal Code charges related to rape, unnatural sex, criminal intimidation and cheating as well as a charge related to attempting illegal conversion under the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act.
However the police said that the woman had made false allegations of forceful religious conversion against Baig when she found out that he was about to get married to a girl in his hometown.
The police said that the two fell in love and eventually decided to stay together. However after a few months their relationship turned sour. It was learnt that the relationship between the accused and the complainant had ended after they had a break-up in 2018.
