No ban on carpooling: Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy

Bengaluru: After criticisms of the ban on carpooling in the city, the Transport Department on Monday clarified that there is no ban, and dismissed claims of a fine of Rs 10,000.

According to the transport department, no vehicle can be used for earning profit, without the registration approval from the Road Transport Office (RTO). In a post on X (previously Twitter), Ramalinga Reddy offered clarification on the issue.

“Carpooling is not banned, it is false news. First, let them take permission. When they have not taken the permission, where is the question of banning?,” he questioned.

Reddy also clarified that it is illegal for white-board vehicles to carpool for commercial purposes.

“Commercial vehicles with yellow number plates can be used for carpooling by following appropriate guidelines.” the post added. This comes after the infamous traffic bottleneck witnessed in the Outer Ring Road, on Wednesday last week.
