Bengaluru: In a swift action, three people were arrested by the city police after they allegedly hacked a 24-yearold man to death during a Ganesha immersion procession that took place in Adugodi on Sunday night.

The mother of the deceased person and a friend were also injured during the attack, police said. The deceased was identified as Srinivasa, a courier delivery executive and a resident of Adugodi in Bengaluru.

The incident took place on Sunday when a Ganesha procession was taken out on Ramanjaneya Temple Road and was passing from the street where Srinivasa resided, the police said.

In a matter of hours, the police arrested the accused identified as Vinay, Alex and Prashanth. Several others were also taken into custody for questioning to ascertain their roles.

According to the police, the deceased had a tiff with the accused youths in the area over dancing in the procession and they had earlier fought over the same issue.

Srinivasa had warned the youths not to carry out the procession in front of his house. However, on Sunday when the procession was being carried, an enraged Srinivasa confronted the gang who was dancing in the procession.

Irritated, Srinivasa asked them to move away, which led to a heated argument. Several locals intervened and subdued the fighting youths. After the procession had passed, the accused persons led by Vinay, returned and stabbed Srinivas with a dagger.

Srinivas' mother, Indira, and a friend, Ranjith, who came to the rescue were also injured in the attack. As panic gripped the area, the locals alerted the police.

The police shifted the victims to the St Johns Hospital where Srinivasa was declared ‘brought dead’. The police said that the entire incident was caught on a CCTV camera and the accused were identified after the footage was scanned.

They were arrested on Monday, the police said, adding that one of the accused has a rowdy sheet opened against him. Further investigation is underway
