US, UK back Canada in its dispute with India over diplomats

New Delhi, NT Bureau: Canada has received support from the United States and the United Kingdom in response to India's request to reduce its diplomatic personnel in the country, as reported by Reuters.

On Thursday, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly announced that her government had withdrawn 41 out of 62 diplomats from India due to an ongoing dispute related to the assassination of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

On Friday, the United States expressed its serious concern about Canada's claims and urged India to collaborate with Ottawa in the investigation.

In the meantime, a spokesperson from the British Foreign Office stated, "We disapprove of the decisions made by the Indian government, which have led to the departure of several Canadian diplomats from India."
