Bengaluru: Bengaluru's ridehailing application, Namma Yatri, has generated a total revenue of Rs 189 crore for its drivers since its launch in November last year.
This app, supported by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), was introduced to compete with established cab aggregators like Ola and Uber, both of which offer auto-booking services within their applications.
Namma Yatri also asserts that it has enabled auto drivers to save nearly Rs 19 crore by implementing a zero-commission model.
In a LinkedIn post, Tina Gurnaney, an ONDC employee, said, "Namma Yatri (powered by ONDC) drivers in Bengaluru have collectively earned Rs 189 crore to date. The drivers receive 100% of these earnings due to our zero-commission model. Even if we conservatively assume that big players previously charged a 10% commission, the drivers have collectively saved about Rs 19 crore in commissions. These figures are expected to grow significantly with increased scale."
This app was introduced amid the ongoing dispute between the transport department and the dominant ride-hailing giants, Ola and Uber, who were accused of imposing high fees on customers.
Namma Yatri directly connects customers with auto drivers, aiming to offer affordable fares by eliminating intermediaries.
While cab aggregators like Ola, Uber, and Rapido faced government scrutiny for charging over Rs 100 per trip, even for journeys shorter than 2 km, Namma Yatri's fares are determined based on the government's fixed price list.
