Bengaluru: All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) on Sunday held a discussion on fellow communist and writer Sharatchandra Chatterjee's Bangla novel 'Pather Dabi' and the fight for human dignity that it emphasised.
Speakers said that Chatterjee's works challenged British colonialism and domestic social ills.
AIDSO District President Abhaya Diwakar, Vice President Apoorva, Secretary Kalyan, and secretariat members Nawaz, Kiran, and Meghana were present at the programme.
K Radhakrishna, member of the Politburo of the SUCI(C), said that ‘Pather Dabi’ eloquently portrays the life challenges faced by the steadfast fighters and revolutionaries of India's quest for freedom, providing both emotional resonance and inspirational vigor.
“This book also emphasises how gender equality plays a vital role in the prosperity of the country, the essence of a genuine struggle for freedom encapsulates the aspiration for more than just reform, aiming instead for the cessation of one person's exploitation by another,” he said.
Ashwini KS, AIDSO State President, while heaping praise on Bhagat Singh, said that the revolutionary wouldn’t be happy with the inequality prevalent in today’s India.
“While India has tumbled to the 111th position on the Hunger Index, the wealth of the affluent continues to grow, leaving us with a question of whether this constitutes genuine progress for the nation,” she said.
