Bengaluru: At the Silver Jubilee celebration of the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B), N R Narayana Murthy, cofounder of Infosys and former institute chairperson, delivered insights on the significance of hard work and determination.

Speaking before dignitaries and the audience, he found inspiration in John F. Kennedy's memorable words from the 1960s moon landing: "Don't do it because it is easy, do it because it is difficult."

Murthy underscored the imperative for the institute's young minds to work hard with determination. Prof Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-Bangalore shared his happiness and pleasure in bringing the institute to a world-class level in the past 25 years and its dedication to education and research, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

He added, “The institute’s journey has been marked by a commitment to fostering research, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with industry, enabling our students to excel in the dynamic world of information technology.”

During his speech at the event, N Viswanathan, Former Chairperson from the year 1998 to 2000, discussed the genesis of the institute's idea.

He recounted a conversation he had with Narayana Murthy, highlighting that despite Karnataka's significant presence in the IT industry, a concerning 30 to 40 per cent of the state's engineering graduates were not job-ready.

This situation led to the inception of IIIT-B, which has a clear objective of enhancing the employability of engineering graduates in prominent technology organisations.

In a conversation with News Trail, Debabrata Das expressed, "Moving forward, we plan to leverage technology and AI most effectively, focusing on initiatives in both physical and mental healthcare that will assist both individuals and healthcare professionals."

During the event, several distinguished individuals received honours in recognition of their service and contributions to the institute in the past 25 years.
