Bengaluru: Bengaluru experienced torrential rains on Tuesday, resulting in severe waterlogging, extensive traffic snarls, and numerous vehicle breakdowns throughout the city.

Pottery Town Road, in particular, bore the brunt of the downpour, with water levels rising knee-deep, immobilising the movement of people and vehicles.

Stranded vehicles had to be rescued and towed by residents. A resident told News Trail, that waterlogging during the monsoon season has become a routine challenge in their street.

"This is a common occurrence here," he remarked. Other heavily affected regions included Old Airport Road, Marathahalli, Outer Ring Road, and Bellandur.

The heavy rainfall from the previous day, which measured 71.2 mm, exacerbated the situation. Several areas such as Balagere Road, Belladur Road towards ecospace, K. R Pura Railway Station and K. R. RM Nagar, Banasawadi Main road, Kogilu junction, Kalyananagara 80 feet road were already waterlogged and traffic was being cleared by the Bengaluru Traffic Police.

The rains on Tuesday evening and night added to the already present issue. Despite several complaints and incidents, the BBMP has repeatedly failed to work on the city's infrastructure which has strained the drainage systems.

This highlights the need for improved urban planning and flood management strategies by the BBMP. The BBMP has reported that one streetlight fell in Bommnhalli after the rains on Tuesday leading to traffic congestion in the area.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in the city and has predicted thundershowers, with heavy rainfall at times, for the next few days.

Residents are advised to be cautious avoid travelling in waterlogged areas, and plan their trips keeping in mind the traffic congestion.
