Heavy rains damage police weapons at CAR facility

Bengaluru: After several photos and videos went viral on social media showing firearms laid out on the ground here, the City Police on Thursday clarified that the weapons were not for sale but laid out for essential drying purposes.

It was revealed that the heavy rainfall on Monday had caused damage to weapons kept in the underground armoury on the premises of City Armed Reserve (CAR) West Division office in Ullal.

According to police, water entered the basement and later into the armoury causing damage to hundreds of firearms. Among the affected weapons were various models of guns, including SLR rifles, AK47s, 9mm pistols, and pumpaction guns.

The muddy water infiltrated the armory, leaving the firearms submerged and subsequently coated with dirt. In response, the police diligently washed and dried the affected guns on tarpaulins, intending to prepare them for safe storage once more.

This act, while necessary for the preservation of the firearms, led to the display of hundreds of weapons in the open.
