Bengaluru: In an effort to promote sustainable urban mobility, the Council for Active Mobility (CFAM) recently spearheaded the "Personal2PublicViaCycle" campaign in collaboration with key partners such as the World Resources Institute (WRI), B.Pac, and the Bangalore Apartment Federation (BAF).
The event took place at Yelachenahalli metro station on Sunday and aimed to encourage residents to embrace cycling for their first and last-mile connectivity to public transport.
The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), GoK, responded to the initiative by deploying 200 bicycle stands in 9 metro stations and 11 BMTC TTMCs, facilitating first/last mile connectivity.
CFAM, a partner in the P2P program, conceptualised the campaign to showcase bicycle parking facilities and promote cycling as a sustainable alternative to motorised transport.
Participants cycled from residences within a 5 km radius of Yelachenahalli metro station, tracking their rides through the AltMo climate action platform.
This initiative, supported by the Sustainable Mobility Network (SMN) map project, aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of active mobility.
Sathya Sankaran, Bicycle Mayor of Bengaluru, and Nidhi KS, CFAM Project Coordinator, emphasised the campaign's significance in encouraging healthier and environmentally friendly commuting choices.
Srinivas Alavilli, Personal2Public Fellow at WRI India, highlighted the importance of cycling as a viable last-mile option, underlining the need to make it safer and more convenient for all age groups.
