Kadalekayi Parishe to begin today

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Bengaluru, known for its vibrant cultural celebrations, is gearing up for the eagerly awaited Kadalekayi Parishe, also known as the groundnut festival.

This traditional event marks the first harvest of groundnuts, bringing together farmers at the iconic Bull Temple in Basavanagudi, one of Bengaluru's oldest suburbs.

Scheduled for December 2-4 in Malleswaram and December 11-13 in Basavanagudi, Kadalekai Parishe is not just about festivities but also emphasises sustainable practices.

The Kadalekayi Parishe Zero Waste collective is leading the charge for a green festival, promoting a plastic-free affair. Vendors will be provided with cloth bags at a minimal cost of Rs 1 or 2, aligning with the collective's eco-friendly initiative.

Beyond the green focus, Kadalekai Parishe is a bustling marketplace where visitors can buy groundnuts directly from farmers at affordable rates.

The festival also features special prayers at the Bull Temple, adorned streets with diverse shopping options, food stalls, and entertainment for kids.

This year, 17 citizen groups, including Hasirudala, Saahas, SWMRT and Beautiful Bharat, are joining hands with the BBMP to make the festival eco-friendly.
