Bengaluru: In a tragic incident near Silk Board Junction, a woman lost her life, and two others, including an 18-monthold baby, sustained injuries when a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus collided with their twowheeler on the Madiwala Flyover.

The event occurred around 6:30 pm on Wednesday while the family was en route to watch a Pro-Kabaddi match. The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Seema.

18-month-old Ganvi and the victim’s husband Gurumurthy escaped with minor injuries. The Madiwala Traffic Police Station has registered a case, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.

Gurumurthy, one of the injured individuals, has accused the BMTC driver of reckless driving, which resulted in the tragic death of Seema, the deceased.

Preliminary reports suggest that the BMTC driver, attempting to move into the left lane, may not have noticed the twowheeler approaching from behind, leading to the fatal collision.

Seema's body has been moved to St John’s Hospital for post-mortem, and after formalities, it will be handed over to the family.

Following the accident, both the BMTC bus driver and conductor fled the scene. The police have launched a search for the driver.

The couple involved in the incident had been residing in Bengaluru for several years, with Gurumurthy employed as a lineman at Singasandra’s Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limit (BESCOM) office.

This tragic event adds to a concerning trend, with at least seven fatalities reported in BMTC bus-related accidents in the past two months alone. Over the last two years, a total of 71 deaths have been documented in accidents involving BMTC buses.
