Street vendors involved in tussle with BBMP, again
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: As footpath vendors have returned to streets despite eviction drives from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP), Fresh rounds of chaos and conflict ensued at Jayanagar 4th block late on Friday.
A sit in protest also followed with around 120 vendors taking part in it. Vendors ranging from different age groups, the ones who have seen business for more than four decades have sat, to ‘fight for what’s theirs.’
In a bid to participate in the sit in, elderly women have brought makeshift plastic seats.
The sit-in had turned physical as the police personnel threatened to Lathi Charge.
Street vendors in the area, who either possess a trade license or waiting to get the same have advocated for recognition and adherence to the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
Well placed sources in the area have also alleged that the vehicle of BBMP South Zonal Commissioner was being blocked.
However, no one was detained by the police.
