Bengaluru: Cracking yet another brutal murder case, the city police arrested a 20-year-old youth for allegedly strangling her aunt to death and setting the body on fire at an isolated place in Bingipura village on the outskirts.
A resident of Doddakammanahalli, Sukanya, (in pic), 36, went missing on February 12 following which the family had filed a missing complaint at the Electronic City Police Station.
While the search was on, a patrolling team from the rural police found charred remains of a human body including skull and bones near Bingipura village, around seven kilometres from Electronic City.
The remains were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ascertain the identity.
Meanwhile another team of officials obtained the Call Data Records (CDR) details from Sukanya's mobile phone and found that she had received multiple calls from one of her relatives, Jaswanth, 20.
It was learnt that he was the nephew of Sukanya's husband. On suspicion, the cops picked up Jaswanth for questioning following which the drama unfolded.
It was revealed that the accused was in desperate need of money and had been asking all his relatives for financial help for the last few weeks.
Sukanya had helped the accused on several occasions in the past. However this time, she allegedly refused to help him.
The police said that during the interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and said that he murdered the woman to steal her jewellery as he needed money.
The accused pre-planned the murder and brought a car from Vijayawada after which he bought a can of petrol from a fuel station in Hosur.
According to the police, the accused strangled the woman to death and carried her body to an isolated spot in Bingipura village and set it aflame by pouring petrol on the body.
He ensured that the body was completely burnt so that it could not be identified even if it is discovered. The accused allegedly sold the jewellery that he had stolen from the woman for cash.
Upon questioning by the cops, the accused claimed that he spent the money to organise a Valentine's Day party in Goa on February 14.
