Aasare Hospital faces closure after allegations of illegal abortion

Bengaluru: The Aasare Hospital in Nelamangala, has been temporarily closed while the police are conducting a probe to ascertain if the hospital was involved in illegal abortions.
Health Department officials and the Bengaluru Rural police visited the hospital on Thursday and seized several important documents.
The hospital is accused of performing 74 abortions over the last three years by violating the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act and not maintaining records of abortions performed at the hospital.
Dr Ravi Kumar, the proprietor of Aasare Hospital, has been served a notice to address the accusations leveled against the institution.
The irregularities came to light during a routine inspection conducted by the District Health Officials, who discovered evidence suggesting violations of the MTP Act.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baldandi of Bengaluru Rural confirmed that a comprehensive probe is underway to unravel the extent of the hospital's transgressions.
Dr Manjunath, a District Health Official from the Health and Family Welfare Department, initiated the investigation after uncovering multiple instances of illegal abortions and recordkeeping deficiencies during an inspection on January 26.
Subsequently, an FIR was lodged on February 20 to address the violations perpetrated by Aasare Hospital.
