BWSSB launches 4 mobile applications amid water crisis

Bengaluru: Bengaluru is living up to its name as the IT Capital of India amidst its worst water crisis in decades.
Apps to detect water leakages, book treated water online, apply for bore well permissions and complain against water misuse was launched on Thursday by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).
Under the application named ‘Jalamitra,’ reports say, citizens, retired officials and NGOs can come forward to involve to detect water leakages and surveys.
The ‘Parisara Jalasnehi,’ is a portal to book treated water online for non-drinking purposes for domestic, commercial and industrial use. Andar Jala helps individual gain permissions to drill bore wells and obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
The Samrakshaka app is created with an aim to detect violators who use drinking water for non-essential purposes.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who also handles Bengaluru development and Water resources portfolio, had flagged off e-rickshaw vehicles, titled ‘Save blue and live green which aims to foster awareness on water conservation.
Addressing media persons at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said, “6,900 out of 13,900 bore wells have dried up. With the monsoon failing the city, there is a critical need to raise awareness about the judicial use of water.
