Bengaluru police plan for conduct of Lok Sabha elections

Bengaluru: A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced dates for the Lok Sabha elections, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda has announced elaborate security measures and directed the local police force to step up vigil and intensify vehicular checks in the city.

The city top cop also announced the establishment of 100 checkposts including the three which are already existing in Bengaluru.

Speaking to News Trail, B Dayananda said that the police teams have been deployed to keep an eye on these checkposts round the clock.

"Apart from police, officials from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Regional Transport Office, Excise and Revenue department will also be available at the checkposts and every vehicle passing through these checkposts will be thoroughly checked to ensure if unaccounted cash, documents, illicit liquor, narcotics, arms or other illegal items are being transported here," the top cop said.

To ensure strict adherence to the Code of Conduct, numerous teams have already been assembled in Bengaluru to ensure free and fair elections.

As the vehicle checks intensified, the city police on Sunday intercepted vehicles based on suspicion and upon checking, recovered Rs 20 lakh unaccounted cash being carried in the city and Nelamangala.

In Bengaluru Central Division, Ashok Nagar Police seized around Rs 12.16 lakh in cash after intercepting a car.

A case has been registered regarding the seizure and efforts are on to determine whether the owner, Narayan, had relevant documents for the same.

The owner hailed from Hosur had claimed that he was into chicken trade, and had collected money from shops.

Similarly, during vehicle checks in Nelamangala Town Police Station limits, the police seized Rs 8 lakh from the vehicle of a businessman.
