BWSSB: Do not use potable water for Holi parties

Bengaluru: As the festival of Holi edges closer, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Wednesday notified against the use of water supply from River Cauvery and Bore wells for hosting ‘rain dances’ and ‘pool parties.’
Holi is a festival celebrated predominantly by Hindus in March. The festival which involves usage of colour powders and water, marks the celebration of Hindu deities Radha and Krishna.
This was noticed after several hotels and resorts had promised cus - tomers Holi celebrations with rain dance and pool parties on online ticketing platforms, at a time where the city is struggling for water supply.
This had attracted backlash from the public too. Last week, the BWSSB also banned the use of potable water in swimming pools.
Bengaluru is reeling under an acute water shortage, in addition to increased temperature in the city. The demand for water has exceeded the supply of water, from River Cauvery and the groundwater table.
It can be said that depletion of groundwater table has resulted in dry ore wells.
