Bengaluru: The city police have ruled out any foul play in the suicide of 19-year-old law student in the city.
A probe initiated by the Bengaluru police after the incident revealed that the deceased, Dhruv Jatin Thakkar, was under mental depression which led him to take the extreme step on Thursday.
Thakkar, the only child to his parents, who are practicing lawyers in Mumbai, had secured an All India Rank of 61 in the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) examination and had also emerged as a topper in the first trimester.
However he had scored comparatively less in the second trimester exam which might have added to his depression, the police said.
The police did not find any suicide note in the hostel room where the student had been staying.
His friends had always appreciated his intellect. It is also learnt that Dhruv was suffering from depression and was under medication.
"The reason for depression could be anything; it could be personal. We have registered a case of unnatural death after collecting the CCTV footage evidence that shows that he died by suicide," a police officer said.
Dhruv died after jumping before an oncoming metro train at Attiguppe metro station on Thursday
