Bengaluru: Due to a rain shortage in Bengaluru, groundwater levels have significantly declined, impacting many wells in the city.
Addressing this issue the BWSSB has requested the citizens to take collective action.
To promote cleanliness in commercial spaces like malls, apartments, government buildings, and public areas, the installation of a device known as the Flow Restrictor/Aerator has been mandated.
This order by the BWSSB which will be effective from March 31, aims to conserve water. Customers complying with this measure will receive a "Green Star Water User" certificate from the BWSSB and failure to install the Flow Restrictor/ Aerator by the specified date will result in a water supply reduction of up to 50%, as per the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Act 1964.
Additionally, fines of Rs. 5000 will be imposed as per relevant clauses. Continuous noncompliance will lead to an additional daily fine of Rs. 500.
Local bodies will recover costs from those failing to comply as per the Act's stipulations.
