Serial swindler using app to dupe women nabbed

Bengaluru: In a significant breakthrough, Bengaluru police have arrested a serial conman, Deepak from Tumkur, for duping young women on a matrimony app by posing as a prospective groom.
Despite not fitting conventional standards of attractiveness, Deepak's deceptive charm and persuasion skills enabled him to gain the trust of numerous unsuspecting women.
His modus operandi involved posting various photos on the app, including those of himself and other handsome men, while falsely claiming to be a bank manager in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
Contrary to his fake identity, Deepak was unemployed and sustained himself by swindling money from his victims.
He used multiple phones to orchestrate his fraudulent schemes and frequently solicited funds from the women he targeted.
One of his recent victims, a young woman from JP Nagar, fell prey to Deepak's tactics on the matrimony app.
After claiming to be a bank employee in Madurai, Deepak proposed marriage to her and subsequently began requesting money for purported emergencies, such as a lost wallet, eventually asking her to deposit Rs 30,000 into his account.
His demands escalated further, including asking the woman to buy a SIM card in her name and send it to him.
Upon realising that she had been conned, the victim confided in a friend and reported Deepak's fraudulent activities to the JP Nagar police station.
