Railway stations to have free drinking water points

Bengaluru: As the state witnesses soaring mercury levels, The South Western Railway (SWR) have announced free drinking water points both at trains and railway stations.
In a statement, it acknowledged the water needs passengers have in their journeys.
“We have reviewed the availability of drinking water points and have intensified actions on places where it is most needed,” the statement added.
Water coolers and Matkas will be installed and placed at the entry, exit and platform ends near General compartments. The SWR has also collaborated with Scouts, Guides and NGOs to provide drinking water.
Stations with water shortage can depend on water tankers, at the cost of the Railways. Pantry cars, and station vendors are directed to have adequate water for passengers to consume.
This comes at a time where the state is hit by a poor monsoon, water scarcity, and a lot of villages hit by drought. Few cities in Karnataka have even hit 40 degree celsius temperatures.
