Bengaluru: The City Police Commissioner B Dayananda assured the citizens that the night patrolling, especially in the vulnerable areas of the city, will be intensified to combat the rising cases of mugging, eve-teasing and robberies.

Responding to a question at the Masika Janasamparka Diwas Programme at Gayathri Vihar of the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru, Dayananda said that the police are working to enhance the safety of the citizens.

"We have identified several places where we are setting up CCTV cameras to keep those areas in check," he said.

During the police-public interaction, a resident from Vasanth Nagar complained to the city top cop about how eve-teasing has become a common sight in the area.

"A large number of women and students live in PGs of Vasanth Nagar and we have often noticed them being harassed while they are returning from work late at night. Several miscreants form groups and engage in eve-teasing here. As soon as they hear Hoysala driving by, they flee.

But they return again and continue harassing the women," the resident complained and suggested the Police Commissioner set up CCTV cameras to identify and nab the miscreants.

Another resident complained about the traffic issue at the Vinayaka Circle near Guttahalli Palace.

"With parking of vehicles allowed on both sides of the road, it is becoming more difficult for the motorists to drive as the parked vehicles are consuming a lot of space here," he said.

Police Commissioner Dayananda directed the senior traffic officers to note down the complaint and visit the area.

"Several areas in the city do not have working street lights due to which residents find it difficult to walk around the area," said another resident.

To this, the city top cop Dayananda assured that he will discuss this matter with the concerned Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) official.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bengaluru Central Division,Shekhar H and DCP, Bengaluru Traffic, Anita Haddannanavar, were present during the discussion, the sources said.
