
318 vehicles seized for night curfew breach
New Year was incident-free, says police chief

Bengaluru: As many as 318 vehicles were seized in Bengaluru for violating night curfew restrictions that were imposed since December 28.
“Police have seized 280 twowheelers, 28 cars and 10 auto-rickshaws. A separate case has been registered against each of the vehicles,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said.While lauding the efforts of the police in enforcing the guidelines, the Commissioner complimented the citizens for cooperating with police. On Friday night, Police seized 26 two wheelers and 5 cars which allegedly were found defying night curfew restrictions.
The police had earlier made announcements using speakers, requesting people to stay indoors after 10 pm. The police also barricaded main roads and important junctions, and stopped commuters for checking.Police officials from the North-East division seized 57 vehicles, West division seized 113 vehicles, North 12 vehicles and Central division seized 136 vehicles so far.The police were also monitoring vehicles to ensure that Covid protocols are being followed, as the city has been witnessing a spurt in Covid and its new variant Omicron cases. Police stations across the city have also introduced special women’s help desks to ensure women safety.The Police Commissioner claimed that citizens have cooperated with the administration in ensuring an incident-free celebration. “There were no cases filed in the cyber cell till Saturday afternoon,” the Commissioner said.After a high-level meeting of senior Ministers, officials and the Covid technical advisory committee, chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, earlier this week, the government had banned outdoor functions and parties in the city and large gatherings were banned across the state.
