Bescom sees dip in power demand; officials hint rain as key factor
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) recently saw its lowest daily demand for power in 4855 Megawatts (MW). Interestingly, agricultural power feed to districts like Chitradurga, Ramnagar and Tumakuru has also seen a dip.
Officials from the power utility suggest that the onset of pre-monsoon showers could be a key factor in reduction.
“The number has come down to around 2500 - 3000 MWs, a reduction by 20 per cent,” the official said.
On May 2, the power utility saw its highest demand of 8444 MW. “This was higher than March 23 last year which recorded 8232 MW in demand. Ever since the city witnessed its first pre-monsoon showers in the first week of May, the demand slid downwards, the official said.
“Before the rains, the demand stood at 7,000 - 8000 MWs, now, it has dipped to the five thousand mark,” they stated, adding that the city demanded 5246 MWs of power on Wednesday.
