Rains down to trickle on monsoon eve

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Summer showers in Karnataka have been losing intensity in Karnataka as we get closer to the onset of monsoon in Kerala and its further advancement in the neighbouring state. India Meteorological Department (IMD) disclosed that Kavadimatti village in Muddebihal taluk of Vijayapura district received the highest rainfall in Karnataka on Tuesday, which was merely three mm.

Koppal city and Mudigere town in Chikkamagaluru district received one mm of rain each. Bajpe town near Mangaluru city in Dakshina Kannada received 0.6 mm of rain.

However, the weather department also revealed that conditions were favourable for the advancement of monsoon in the region, including Karnataka. The state has been forecast for some rain in the coming days but no yellow, orange or red alerts have been issued.

“The conditions also continue to become favorable for further advance of South West Monsoon (SWM) into some more parts of South Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area; some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala; some more parts South West and Central Bay of Bengal, Northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeastern states during the same period,” An IMD statement said.

They added that the advancement of monsoon was being abetted by weather systems in the region. “A cyclonic circulation lies over south Tamil Nadu and neighborhood at 5.8 km above mean sea level,” the weather department added.
