On Environment Day, B'luru mall unveils 25-foot e-waste mural to promote awareness

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: To celebrate World Environment Day, Orion Mall at Brigade Gateway in the city on Monday unveiled a striking 25-foot high e-waste mural created by acclaimed artist and designer Vishwanath Mallabadi Davangere.

Known for his use of ewaste in art, Davangere's mural features discarded items such as keyboards, remote controls, ethernet cables, exhaust fans, video conferencing equipment, analogue audio cassettes, cordless phones, CDs, and DVDs.

This installation will be a prominent fixture at the mall for the next year, serving as a powerful symbol of environmental consciousness.

Talking to News Trail, Sunil Munshi, Vice President, Retail at Orion, explained that the mural is part of Brigade Group's broader initiative to raise awareness about e-waste management. He emphasised that most people are unaware of how to dispose of e-waste, and measures such as these will help create awareness.

To address the growing e-waste issue in the city, Brigade Group has partnered with Zolopik, a government-authorised e-waste recycler, to place recycling bins across all Orion malls, aiming to provide an accessible and effective e-waste disposal solution for the community.

Vishwanath Mallabadi Davangere told News Trail, “As a designer and art enthusiast, I use different platforms to raise awareness about e-waste and spread the message that end-oflife products can be reused instead of ending up in landfills. Upcycling e-waste not only adds value to discarded items but also has a significant impact on future generations.”

As an artist who aims to cultivate ecoawareness and bridge art, technology & sustainability, he urged people to purchase devices that suit their needs rather than go after the latest gadgets.
