2-wheeler riders need to be vigilant on tyres, brakes as monsoon descends

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: With the monsoon making a healthy arrival in Bengaluru, owners of two-wheelers face the risk of various issues such as cold batteries, water entering silencers and brake problems, which could prove costly. The city experienced its wettest day of June in 133 years on Monday.

Shakir, the branch manager at a prominent two-wheeler company, warned about the importance of maintaining tyres.

“Given the poor road infrastructure in the city, tyres require careful attention. I recommend changing them every 12,000 km, but many people neglect this and wait until it exceeds 15,000 km,” he emphasised.

Sharif stressed the significance of new tyres for the monsoon season. “People often mishandle tyres, especially on turns. It’s advisable to reduce the speed, particularly in turns. I’ve witnessed some taking turns at 50 km/h,” he remarked.

Silencers and brake shoes are other critical areas of concern during the rainy season. “Brakes are essential in wet conditions. Water ingress compromises their grip, increasing the risk of slippage,” Shakir cautioned.
