Fostering creativity, conservation among kids at Dorekere Lake

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: ActionAid hosted a nest box workshop at Dorekere Lake, led by Naturalist JN Prasad, where children crafted bird abodes using simple materials like shoe boxes, pencils, brown tape, and paper cutters.

With over 15 eager participants, the event was a hit, fostering both creativity and conservation awareness. JN Prasad has been a keen naturalist and a bird watcher for the last four decades.

The hands-on experience not only engaged the children but also contributed positively to the local ecosystem, providing shelter for avian inhabitants.

Such initiatives blend education with practical action, nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious individuals, said the organisers.

Dorekere is said to be a part of the Vrishabhavati Valley of Bengaluru. It receives water from Gowdanakere or Gowdanapalya Kere from the North and Devarakere from the South and finally discharges excess water into Vrishabhavati Valley.

It is spread across 28 acres and is located in the southwest part of Bengaluru. It provides features like a walking path, gym, 'kalyani', and other amenities. It has two wetlands on the eastern side of the lake.
