Thieves use gas cutter to cut open ATM, steal Rs 15.10 lakh

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A group of unidentified miscreants alle gedly stole around Rs 15.10 lakh from an ATM in Bashettihalli town in Doddaballapur district.

According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday night. Senior IPS officer CK Baba who recently took charge as the Superintendent of Police of Bengaluru Rural, inspected the spot soon after the police were alerted.

The jurisdictional rural police station Inspector Sadiq Pasha said that around Rs 15.10 lakh was stolen from the ATM that belongs to a governmentowned public sector bank. Police suspect that the miscreants used gas cutters and damaged the machine in the process of gaining access to the cash.

The police also suspect that the thieves may have plotted the heist and observed the area around the ATM before committing the crime.

"The ATM is located in an industrial area and as it is the beginning of the month, a number of labourers and workers would visit the ATM to withdraw cash from their bank accounts. It is learnt that the bank officials had recently deposited cash into the machine.
