Bengaluru: Police opened a single round of fire against a 21-year-old who was in custody on charges of attempted murder and armed robbery, when he attempted to attack a cop and escape. He was shot in the left leg and is being treated at a hospital in the city. On Sunday night, at around 11, the police arrested Parvez Pasha, alias Mohammed Jain, who attacked and robbed 23-year-old Fayaz Mohammed as he alighted from a bus in front of Lalbagh Gate on Double Road.

At around 6 am, the victim was trying to book a cab when two men appeared on a yellow scooter and snatched his mobile phone. Mohammed managed to overpower the accused at first and a scuffle ensued, with both parties trying to grab the phone. In a fit of rage, the accused pulled out a dagger and stabbed Mohammed before making his escape. Siddapura police registered an attempt to murder case (IPC 307), and using a deadly weapon to cause grievous hurt at the time of committing robbery (IPC 397) against the two robbers.

Police tracked down Pasha, the main accused, on Sunday night. During his interrogation, Pasha told police that the associate who accompanied him was Abubaker Siddique, alias Yaana, said an investigating officer.

Pasha also told police that he had thrown the weapon used in the crime at Chikkagowdanapalya in Banashankari 6th Stage. Police escorted him to recover the weapon, which was where Pasha said. As they returned to their vehicles with the weapon, Pasha attacked a policeman and tried to escape.

A senior police officer who was at the spot fired a warning round into the air, telling Pasha to surrender. When Pasha refused to listen, the officer opened one round of fire at Pasha’s left leg.

He is now undergoing treatment in St. John’s Hospital. Siddapura police have registered a case against Pasha and his associate and are investigating.
