BBMP dengue awareness contest: Make reel, win cash prize

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In an innovative effort to combat the rising dengue cases in Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has introduced a unique Reel contest aimed at raising awareness about dengue fever.

The BBMP health department is encouraging residents to create engaging Reels on social media, offering substantial cash prizes to incentivise participation and spread crucial information. As part of this initiative, BBMP has announced a prize pool of Rs 1.35 lakh for the best Reels.

The top five outstanding Reels will each receive Rs 25,000, while the next five will be awarded Rs 10,000 each. Additionally, a grand prize of Rs 1 lakh will be given to the school that produces the most Reels featuring the highest number of students participating.

Teachers who motivate their students to create these awareness videos will also be rewarded, with a prize of Rs 35,000 allocated for those who show exceptional support. Participants are required to tag their Reels on the BBMP Health Department’s Facebook and Twitter (@BBMPSplHealth) accounts.

The winning Reels will be selected based on their view count and the quality of information provided about dengue prevention.

The campaign aims to leverage the popularity of social media to engage the community and enhance public knowledge about preventing dengue fever. The initiative, branded as Denghi Hikari Background Reels, seeks to combine creativity with public health efforts, encouraging a wide audience to contribute to the cause.

The BBMP hopes that this approach will not only inform residents but also foster a proactive attitude towards dengue prevention.

Despite the creative angle, the competition has faced some criticism. Some critics argue that the initiative might trivialise the seriousness of dengue fever by focusing on entertainment rather than education. However, BBMP officials believe that combining.
