Entrance exam proposal for masters’ courses in state varsities

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) called upon the State government to reject the Karnataka State Higher Education Council’s proposal to conduct entrance exams for post-graduate courses in government-run universities.

AIDSO Karnataka State Secretary Ajay Kamath said that the move would cut off the access of several underprivileged students to masters’ courses.

“AIDSO Karnataka strongly urges the State government to immediately withdraw this proposal and provide admission to postgraduate courses based on degree marks at the university level,” Kamath said.

“The Karnataka State Higher Education Council has submitted a proposal to the State government to conduct an entrance exam for postgraduate courses in universities. If this entrance exam is implemented, it will push a large number of students away from higher education, which is already experiencing a significant decline in admissions. It becomes a severe blow to the students wanting to pursue higher education and restricts entry into it. Further, it boosts the coaching lobby, which already is causing tremendous chaos in all entrance exams. It also undermines the autonomy of universities, which is fundamental and the primary objective of higher education,” he added.
