Dalits thank Azim Premji for grant to improve nutrition
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Dalit community has extended its heartfelt gratefulness to Azim Premji, the chairman of Wipro, for his generous grant of Rs 1,500 crore aimed at providing eggs to schoolchildren for their nutritional betterment.
The massive contribution has been widely praised for its potential to significantly improve the health and education of children, especially those from marginalised backgrounds.
In a press release, Anantharayappa, state secretary of the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi, lauded Premji's commitment to enhancing the well-being of schoolchildren.
"Children of marginal farmers and labourers who study in government schools often lack access to nutritious food, which adversely affects their physical and mental growth," Anantharayappa stated, going on to add, "The initiative by Azim Premji to provide eggs will greatly contribute to the health and educational development of these children."
The grant by Azim Premji is set to address a critical issue faced by many students in government schools across Karnataka. Malnutrition is a significant barrier to effective learning and overall development, particularly among children from economically disadvantaged families.
By ensuring a regular supply of nutritious food, such as eggs, the initiative aims to enhance students' physical health, thereby supporting their cognitive and academic performance.
