Bengaluru: Emphasising that there is no need for the public to panic about Covid-19, as most people in the city have been vaccinated, the BBMP has made a number of arrangements to contain the spread of the virus. The Palike is contemplating Covid Care Centres in all Assembly constituencies to provide treatment for those who test positive. “The BBMP has made arrangements to provide treatment for Covid- 19. Most of the people who contract the virus don’t require hospitalisation. They can avail treatment at Covid care centres in the city,” said the BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta.
The Chief Commissioner accompanied Excise Minister K. Gopalaiah to inspect a Covid Care Centre in Mahalakshmi Layout. Gupta appealed to the public to follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) at public places. “I want people to avoid crowded places. I also want people suffering with fever, cold or any other Covid-like symptoms to take the RT-PCR test. If they test positive, they are advised to isolate themselves and avail treatment. They should be admitted to the hospital if the need arises.”
Meanwhile, the IT-BT corridor has reported more Covid cases than densely populated areas. The surge has been observed in areas where the literacy rate and awareness are higher, compared to thickly populated areas in the city.
Mahadevapura leads the list with 201 Covid cases, according to zone-wise data over the last seven days, till January 4. Bengaluru East is in second place, with 166 cases, Bommanahalli has reported 126, South 113, West 86, Yelahanka 57, R.R. Nagar 48 and Dasarahalli 16.
The number of Covid cases has risen sharply to 2,053 on January 4, from a mere 248 on December 26. The BBMP claims it has conducted 2,40,40,480 tests between December 14, 2021 and January 2, 2022. The civic body says that 44,202 people were tested on January 2 alone.
Among the 740 international travelers who arrived in the city on January 3, six of them tested positive for Covid.
