Govt continuously neglecting our issues, says transport union leader

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: Employees from four state-run transport corporations KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC are on the warpath with HV Anantha Subbarao, President of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) blaming the government for continuously neglecting their pending demands. Speaking at a protest at Freedom Park on Thursday, Subbarao voiced concern about the demands including the financial struggle faced by the corporations and the government's failure to address them.

The Joint Action Committee, representing the employees, had submitted a list of demands to the government this year on January 25, following several labour conventions in Bengaluru, Kalaburagi, and Hubballi. Despite these efforts, no response has been received from the state government or the transport corporation managements. Subbarao pointed to the reports of the P.G.R. Scindia Committee in 1994 and the MR Srinivasa Murthy Committee in 2022 which he said, had recommended measures such as capital contribution, reimbursement of losses for concessional travel, and the formation of a fare-fixing body by the state government to ensure financial stability. However, none of these recommendations have been implemented, leaving the transport corporations in dire straits, he said.
