Supported by educationists,  philanthropists,  and social activists,  Social Advancement  Foundation of India  (SAFI) was started in  September 2001. SAFI  aims to upgrade academic and research  programmes in the  areas of science &  technology, commerce,  management, information technology, arts  and other spheres of  studies. This is done  with the aim to produce a new breed of  professionals who can  provide leadership  and direction. SAFI,  a nonprofit charitable  trust, was formed by  617 people who came  together to create a  space for ethical and  professional learning,  says Col Nisar Seethi,  COO, SAFI.

The first project of  the institute, SAFI Institute of Advanced  Studies, affiliated with  Calicut university, was  started in 2005. In the  last 16 years, 18 more  courses have been added -- 12 undergraduate  and 6 postgraduate  courses. Out of their  grand total of 16,000  students, 58 percent  of students are girls  from Malappuram and  adjoining districts.  The institution has a  residential campus on  a picturesque hilltop,  near the city of Calicut.

“We are working on  SAFI mission 2030, and  the tracks we can take  for the next ten years”,  Col Seethi says. The  mission aims at fulfilling many objectives,  one of them is turning the SAFI institute  into an autonomous  affiliation. The SAFI  Chanakya Civil Service Programme is one  of the projects. “This  is a residential course  which has the best  of the faculty from  Chanakya Academy  in Delhi, with all the  facilities available in  the campus. Now the  Chanakya facility is  available in Calicut”,  says Col Seethi.

A unique thing  about the institution  is that they will be providing attractive scholarships, including 100  percent scholarship to  deserving candidates  based on their online  interviews and tests.  “This is not a commercial project at all, this  is to create leaders  with ethics and values”, says Col Seethi.

SAFI Chanakya Civil  Service Programme

SAFI has started a  civic service training  centre in collaboration  with Chanakya IAS  Academy. The Academy equips and trains  students keeping in  mind the recent  developments of  the UPSC examination course. Coaching and mentoring  are provided by a  faculty of professors, researchers,  fellows, and retired  IAS officers with experience in the civil  services. “A collaboration of the two stalwarts of their fields,  SAFI and Chanakya  IAS Academy will set  new milestones for the  preparation of civil  services examination.

The expertise of SAFI  in the education domain and Chanakya  IAS Academy in UPSC  civil services examination will not only help  the aspirants of Kerala  but across the world in  achieving their dream  of becoming civil servants.
