Raid at Parappana Agrahara Jail; phones, drugs, cash recovered

NT Correspondent, Bengaluru: Bengaluru South East Police raided Parappana Agrahara central jail in Bengaluru late Saturday night, following which contraband like mobile phones, drugs and cash was seized by cops. The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (South East) Sara Fatima, who was accompanied by 50 other policemen. Law enforcement officials said that the mobile phones belonged to well-known history sheeter Wilson Garden Naga. They added that about 18 additional phones were in possession of his associates.

Police sources said that they had also discovered “a substantial quantity of drugs and a large sum of cash hidden within the jail premises.” The raid coincides with ongoing concerns about Naga, who had been reportedly receiving undue advantages and benefits while being incarcerated. His alleged connections to various criminal activities outside the jail, including rumored links with Kannada movie actor and murder accused Darshan Thoogudeepa, have sparked considerable media attention and public intrigue.

Law enforcement officials said that the goal behind the operation was to dismantle the networks operating within and even outside the prison system. The authorities are now investigating how contraband was smuggled into the jail and are taking steps to reinforce security measures to prevent future breaches. The findings from this raid are expected to lead to further inquiries and potential reforms within the correctional facility.

Viral pic leads to action

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: On August 25, a photograph of Darshan in jail triggered speculation that he might be getting undue comforts in prison, which triggered investigation into how the prison was being run. Top officials operating the prison were also suspended. Darshan is in judicial custody in the Renukaswamy murder case. In the picture, Darshan, lodged in Parappana Agrahara central jail, was seen wearing civilian clothes, reclining on a chair, holding a cigarette and a mug in an outdoor setting. Those seated with Darshan appeared to be his manager and co-accused Nagaraj and Naga.
