Man rescued after attempting suicide at Jnanabharathi Metro Station

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: A 30-year-old man who attempted suicide by jumping onto the tracks at the Jnanabharathi metro station in western Bengaluru on Tuesday afternoon was fortunately saved by security guards. The man, identified as Siddharth, a native of Bihar, jumped onto the track just as a metro train approached the Jnanabharathi station at 2:13 PM. Security staff immediately activated the Emergency Trip System (ETS), cutting off the power supply to the 750V third rail, preventing any injuries, according to a statement from Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL). The incident caused a disruption in train services along the entire Purple Line (Whitefield- Challaghatta) for 17 minutes, with full services restored by 2:30 PM.

During this period, two short-loop trains operated up to Mysuru Road, instead of the terminal station at Challaghatta, BMRCL added. This marks the fourth suicide or attempted suicide at a metro station in Bengaluru this year. On June 10, a man sustained a head injury after jumping onto the tracks at Hosahalli metro staion, disrupting Purple Line services for over half an hour.
