BMRCL proposes eight new FOBs, 11 new multi-modal hubs
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In response to Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya’s requests to improve Namma Metro services, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced plans to expedite key infrastructural projects, including foot over bridges (FOBs), platform screen doors (PSDs), and new parking spaces. After Surya traveled with commuters a month ago, he penned a letter to the BMRCL requesting improvements in last-mile connectivity, accessibility, and passenger safety.
In its response, the BMRCL emphasized its ongoing collaboration with the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) for Metro feeder buses, stating that over 2,000 trips across 38 metro stations occur daily. The demand for PSDs has increased following incidents of passengers jumping onto the metro tracks. “PSDs are planned for both Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station in Majestic and Sir M Visvesvaraya Station on the purple line,” the letter stated. PSDs are also planned for upcoming lines of Namma Metro.
Additionally, extra security guards have been deployed in all three shifts, with two assigned to each platform. During peak hours, a dedicated team of 24 home guards is deployed to manage crowd control. FOBs are proposed for eight existing and upcoming multi-modal junctions: J P Nagar, Kamakhya Junction, Mysuru Road station, Sumanahalli Cross station, Peenya station, BEL Circle station, Hebbal Railway Station, and Hosahalli station.
