CBSE reinforces 75% attendance rule for classes X and XII boards
NT Correspondent Bengaluru: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reiterated the importance of regular student attendance in schools as a prerequisite for eligibility to appear in Class X and XII board examinations. According to the CBSE Examination Bye-Laws, students must maintain a minimum attendance rate of 75 per cent. This requirement is critical, as it underlines the role of schools not only in academic instruction but also in fostering holistic student development. Schools are instructed to fully inform students and parents about the mandatory attendance threshold and the repercussions of failing to meet this requirement. In cases of medical emergencies, students must provide proper documentation, including medical certificates, to apply for leave. Unauthorised absences will be recorded as such, which could jeopardise a student’s eligibility for board exams.
To ensure adherence to these guidelines, schools must implement several measures. Attendance records should be updated daily and signed by both the class teacher and school authority, making them available for CBSE inspections. Additionally, parents must be promptly notified if a student frequently misses school, emphasising the potential consequences, including disqualification from board examinations. CBSE may conduct surprise inspections to verify compliance with attendance protocols.
