Crime against women rising in Bengaluru
The number of rape cases registered in the city under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), considered to be the most serious crime against women, has increased compared with 2020, but it is lower than the number of cases in 2019.
As per the data available, 147 rape cases were reported in 2019, 111 in 2020, while the number of rape cases in 2021 is 115. Solving of these cases is cent per cent.
Cases registered for molestation, under 354 of the IPC, was 778 in 2019, but 736 were solved. While the number of reported cases in 2020 is 547, 485 of them have been detected. The number of cases registered in 2021 was 569, but the cops could resolve only 446 cases.
Under Section 509 of IPC (insulting modesty of women) 50 cases were reported in 2019 and 45 solved. In 2020, 22 cases were reported and 20 cases solved. Again the police failed to detect as many cases when compared to the previous two years with the number of solved cases being only 13 as against the reported 20 cases.
As for dowry deaths(under section 304B IPC), in 2019, 40 cases were reported and all cases were solved. In 2020, the number of such cases has come down to 28 and all of them were resolved. In 2021, the number of reported cases and solved cases remains 25.
In 2019, 471 cases were reported pertaining to section 498A of IPC (Cruelty by husband or relatives of husband) and police have resolved all the cases. In 2020, 400 cases were reported and all cases have been solved. However 2021 saw an addition of 20 more cases( 420) when compared to the previous year. All cases have been solved.
