In a bid to raise awareness about prostate cancer, HCG Cancer Centre Bengaluru hosted the ‘Cyclothon @ Namma Bengaluru’ on November 25, marking Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. This 6.5-kilometre cycling event brought together over 400 participants, rallying for early detection and regular screenings, both vital in combating prostate cancer. The Cyclothon, which began at 7:00 am, was flagged off by Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of Karnataka, Healthcare Global Enterprises Limited, alongside Dr Raghunath, Director of Uro Oncology at HCG K.R. Road, and members of the Horamavu Cycling Squad, Archana Rudra, and Arun Sivanesan.
The ride commenced at the HCG Cancer Centre on K.R. Road, traversing through Bengaluru landmarks, including Residency Road, Queen’s Road, Vidhana Soudha and K.R. Circle, before returning to the hospital. The event not only served as a physical activity but also as an educational platform. Participants engaged in a pre event session led by health experts from HCG Cancer Centre, learning about proactive measures to protect men’s health.
The Cyclothon sparked important conversations about prostate cancer prevention, screening, and early detection. Manisha Kumar said, “It was heartening to see such strong participation. Initiatives like these help raise awareness and empower men to take proactive steps in their health journey.” Dr. Raghunath underscored that early detection makes prostate cancer one of the most treatable cancers. He added, “Today’s Cyclothon served as a reminder of the importance of health screenings and early detection.”
