Temperature drops and continued rainfall have made Bengalureans pull out their woollens right at the beginning of December as the city grappled with the ripple effect of 'Cyclone Fengal' on Tuesday. The cyclone has caused widespread havoc in neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 21.2 millimetre of rainfall as of 5.30 pm on Tuesday. Like on Monday, several arterial roads connecting the outskirts of the city saw heavy traffic while a few witnessed severe traffic bottlenecks. Major roads which are not white-topped bore the brunt with potholes springing up everywhere adding to the woes of riders and commuters. Kanakapura road, Sarjapur - Marathahalli road and Ejipura road connecting Koramangala and Indiranagar were among the roads affeted.
According to Bengaluru Varunamitra, heavy inundation was witnessed at several places under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits with Gururaja layout near Doddanekundi in Mahadevapura zone(30mm of rainfall), Palm Grove road in Shantala Nagar (East Zone), and Vannarpet ( 25mm of rainfall) the worst affected. Roads and localities were also moderately flooded at Shivajinagar, Kadu Malleshwaram, Yeshwantpur bus-stop, Anugraha Layout, HSR Layout sector 2, Hosakerehalli, Talakaveri Layout in Vignana Nagar, Munnekolala and Thubarahalli. Manhole lids at prominent junctions sprung open due to which people witnessed the unpleasant spectacle of sewage mixing with rain water. The manhole lid near the Corporation Circle burst open, leading to sewage water flowing down the road amidst heavy traffic. The IMD has forecast rain for Bengaluru Urban and Rural on Wednesday. However, no alerts have been issued.
