Bengaluru: Taking note of the flooding due to heavy rains adjacent to the Doddabommasandra Lake in North Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is expected to develop the Rajakaluve at a cost of Rs 2 crore. This announcement was made by Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath at his routine zonal inspections in Yelahanka. In October this year, Tatanagar, Devinagar and surrounding areas took the brunt of an overnight cloudburst, resulting in the Doddabommasandra lake being overwhelmed.
Roads and homes along the downstream saw water upto eight feet. This was also due to a narrow drainage system at present. It is also learnt that the Rajakaluve is blocked with slabs in Tatanagar, and officials were told to remove it. Girinath has instructed officials to issue a tender worth Rs 2 crore and start work on developing the Rajakaluve. In his interaction with concerned citizens, Girinath directed officials to look into commercial establishments which haven't complied with the rule of 60 per cent Kannada in its hoardings andtake appropriate action.
