Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on Sunday issued a stern warning to event organisers and resort owners, cautioning them against any complicity in misbehaviour during New Year’s Eve celebrations. As the city gears up for large-scale festivities, particularly in areas such as MG Road and Koramangala, authorities are extending their vigilance to resorts and hotels on the city’s outskirts. “We have announced seven days of mourning for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s death. This applies only to government programmes. Private events must adhere to the rules,” Shivakumar told reporters. To maintain order, around 10,000 CCTV cameras have been installed across Bengaluru.

“You [organisers] may take it as a warning or a request, but celebrate the New Year responsibly and in accordance with the rules,” he added. Cubbon Park walkers protest ‘loud’ celebrations In a parallel development, the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association held a candlelight protest against loud celebrations within the park premises. The group reiterated their stance, citing the regulations set by the Cubbon Park Conservation Committee, chaired by the Principal Secretary of the Horticulture Department. These rules explicitly prohibit activities such as playing loud music, consuming alcohol, and bursting crackers within the park.
