Special drive yields Rs 6.79 lakh in fines in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A special traffic enforcement drive conducted by the Bengaluru West Division Traffic Police on January 27 resulted in the registration of 1,385 cases and the collection of Rs 6,79,500 in fines for traffic violations. The operation targeted various traffic offences, including wrong parking, one-way violations, triple riding, footpath parking, and misconduct by auto rickshaws.

The breakdown of the cases and corresponding fines is as follows: The special traffic enforcement drive registered 131 cases of Wrong Parking/No Parking, resulting in fines totalling Rs 69,800. Additionally, One-Way/No Entry Violations accounted for 247 cases, with Rs 1,21,100 collected in fines. There were 24 instances of Footpath Parking, leading to Rs 17,000 in fines.

The drive also addressed Triple Riding, with 23 cases resulting in Rs 12,000 worth of penalties. Eighteen cases were recorded for Auto Refusal to Hire, with fines amounting to Rs 7,500. Twenty-four cases were filed for Excess Fare Demands, totalling Rs 12,000 in fines. Finally, the operation included Other Cases, with 918 cases resulting in Rs 4,52,100 in fines.

Along with penalising offenders, the police aimed to raise awareness among the public regarding the significance of adhering to traffic regulations. The initiative sought to ensure road safety, reduce accidents, and promote responsible driving behaviour. The Bengaluru Traffic Police have confirmed that such special operations will continue in the coming days to maintain traffic discipline and ensure safer roads across the city.
